QUEBEC WILL TURN ITS BACK ON OIL FROM 2024

QUEBEC CITY — The Legault government will ban the replacement of oil heating systems from 2024, a “disruptive” gesture, says Environment Minister Benoit Charette.

Quebec will confirm this Wednesday by decree the ban on the installation of oil heating devices in new constructions as of December 31, 2021, as well as the ban on their replacement in existing buildings as of December 31, 2023.

“It is an additional gesture of rupture that we are making [and] which applies to new constructions from December 31. For replacement or installation in existing houses, we leave a period of two years,” explains Mr. Charette in an interview with La Presse.
